Digital by Default reports this week on the recent findings produced by the Institute of Directors (with Atos) on how the UK Government must embrace the best of private sector innovation if it is to deliver the high-quality digital services that citizens expect. “The Government has said in its Industrial Strategy that it is keen to use procurement as a means to raise the UK’s productivity, and the report argues digital services is one area ripe for improvement in 2018 through deeper partnership with the private sector,” it says. One of the key findings from the report is that nearly 1,000 business leaders (77%) think the public sector is poorly equipped to take advantage of changes due to technological advances and automation, and 60% say the Government does not make good enough use of private sector expertise. The IoD report says the Government must open itself up to digital transformation, and use the private sector as an essential partner to create an environment that allows for innovation.
